DWP Digital is the technology and transformation division of the Department for Work and Pensions, UK.

Challenge

DWP Digital was looking to recruit over 1000 digital and technology specialists into it’s newly-created department. These varied from software engineers, software architects, data scientists, UX designers, security analysts and more. Their package oftentimes cannot compete with what big players in the technology industry can offer.

Opportunity

Having identified USPs of working for the DWP Digital we saw an opportunity for promoting the brand in other, UK cities (Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Blackpool) that saw a rise among tech talent and matched offered salary-scale. In order to promote the roles, we needed to introduce the brand and opportunities there.

Solution

In order to attract the right audience we have launched an events series called Hack The North. These all-day-long events focused on highlighting an issue and giving the attendees opportunity to come up with a digital solution and pitch it to the jury at the end of the day.

Results

Events attracted around 100 attendees each and were hosted in collaboration with our technology partners who sponsored refreshments and awards. This allowed us cut the costs to minimum. 10 innovative solutions were presented to the judging board, 2 are being implemented.
